Hdv

Hdv stands for 'high definition digital video' and is the latest pro/consumer digital aquisition format. It uses the same basic mechanism as DVcam and currently records on better quality MiniDv style tapes. Most cameras can record standard definition as DVcam although the results are better because of the high resolution chips. In Hdv mode the picture resolution is 1440x1080 pixels (interlaced and anamorphic), however this is compressed from the chips by a factor of 25:1 and can result in glitches. Some productions are considering this format as a cheaper equivalent to Digital Betacam for similar results when the production is delivered in a standard definition format.
