DVcam is becoming the standard SD aquisition format for lower buget non-broadcast productions (some cable/satelite channels accept this format). It is a low data intensive format and the information recieved by the camera chips is compressed by a factor of 5:1. It is considered to be of excellent quality for a lower buget. It eats disk space at a low 3.5mb per second. The material is 'digitised' through a 'firewire' connection and can be easily read fast enough from a standard firewire 400 disk drive when editing.
