Media can be stored on an internet site and can be accessed by anyone in the world if they have permission and if they know it's there. This can be video, audio, imagery, documents, and any other form of computer data. Someone can 'goto' an internet address (url). This means that the media does not have to reside on your computer and does not rely on your internet connection. Also, a 'remote server' may well have a higher capacity to deal with high data rates and/or many simultaneous users. Video media can vary in the extreme when it comes to 'streaming' from the internet, however, it is possible to pre-download a file for viewing/using when on the users local media storage.
